A few of the notable figures we have lost this year. The Ferrari world is saddened at the loss of these fine men.

Robert Cullen Rapp
Feb. 6, 1926 - Apr. 10, 2024

 

 

    Robert Cullen Rapp, Jr., 98, of Greensboro, passed away April 10, 2024, peacefully at his home with his family. Rapp was born in Thomasville, NC, on February 6, 1926, to the late Eunice Blair Jerome Rapp and the late Robert Cullen Rapp, Sr., and is preceded in death by his brother Walter Jerome Rapp.


    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Victor Graham Rapp; son, Robert Cullen Rapp III of Greensboro; daughter, Katherine Reston Rapp Wood and her husband, Jon, of Columbia, SC, and his precious granddaughters, Adelaide, Adair, and Reston Wood.
Rapp was in the construction and building business and he co-founded Westminster Company which later became a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Co. He went on to establish Arappco Homes that was later acquired by D.R. Horton, Inc., in the late 1990s.


    Rapp loved the game of tennis, playing well into his golden years, snow skiing, and playing golf. He was a Formula One enthusiast and enjoyed vintage car racing on his own at the Virginia International Raceway. His love of Ferraris was immeasurable and he served as Treasurer and Vice President of the Ferrari Club of America.

 

    Rapp had many Ferraris including a 250 SWB, S/N 1953 GT; 275 GTB/4, S/N 10887; F40, S/N  86708; 512S, S/N 1016; 333SP, S/N 006; 512BB, S/N 20553;  512BB/LM, S/N 32131, and more.


    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice in honor of Bob.

 


 

Paolo Pininfarina
Aug. 28, 1958 - Apr. 9, 2024

 

 

    It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paolo Pininfarina, in Turin at the age of 65. He leaves behind his wife Ilaria, his children Greta, Giovanni, Iole, Tullio, and Giulia, his mother Giorgia Gianolio.


    Paolo was chairman of the company started by his grandfather, Battista, in 1930. Son of Sergio Pininfarina, he kept the company on the leading edge of incredible design.


    Today, Pininfarina is one of the top car design houses in the world. Paolo said he vividly remembered attending the Torino Motorshow with his family when he was only five or six years old. He knew he wanted to be involved with automobiles.


    Paolo was born August 28, 1958, in Turin. At the age of 24, his first job at Pininfarina was quality control for the Cadillac Allante.


    In 1987, he became manager of the new Pininfarina Extra, which does design for non-automotive industries, such as furniture and appliances.


    In 2008 he became Chairman of Pininfarina until his death on April 9th, 2024, succeeding his brother Andrea. He was member of the board of Turin’s Instituto Europeo di Design from 1996-2004 and was emeritus participating founder of the Associazione per il Designo Industriale of Milan.

 


 

Alfred John Mohr
Oct. 12, 1937 - Mar. 7, 2024

 

 

    The Mohr family is saddened to announce the passing of Alfred John Mohr, the founder of Mohr imports, at the age of 86 on March 7th, 2024.


    Born in Bronx, New York, on October 12, 1937, the son of Bruno Mohr and Winnifred Loftus, Mohr grew up in Queens with his sister Elizabeth. His father was a NYC taxi driver which kickstarted his love of the automobile.


    He married Stella Marie Golis on March 3, 1964. This past March would have been their 60th anniverary. He is survived by his wife Stella, son Adam and grandson Addison, car friends and close relatives.


    He briefly worked for the New York Times but ended up at Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners. He was with Electrolux for many years selling vacuum cleaners door to door from the trunk of his blue Ferrari 275 GTB/4!


    His first Ferrari was a 330 America which he traded for the blue 275 GTB/4.


    This year marks the 40th anniversary of Mohr Imports, Inc., in Monterey, CA, where they are one of the most significant and important classic car brokerages and have bought and sold hundreds of Ferraris.


    Mohr loved all things cars and was very involved in the Ferrari community. He was an early member of the Ferrari Owner’s Club and owned some very important Ferraris including his Haitian Blue 275 GTB/4, and a competition Daytona.
