Delivered new to Verona, Italy. Subsequently exported to the United States. Shown at the 1990 FCA National Concours at Watkins Glen, and again in 1991, at the Washington FCA National Concours. Part of the Rick Grant Collection since 1999. Displayed at the 1999 Cavallino Classic and participated in the track event at Moroso Motorsports Park. Displayed again at the 2003 Cavallino Classic earning  an Argento Award. Borrani wire wheels. 82,395 km. Lot K148.1. Sold for $2.97 million.

Two-year restoration completed in 2000 by Piet Roelofs in Holland. Imported to the United States in 2002. Shown at Concourso Italiano in 2003 and 2004. Exported to Germany in 2007 and displayed at the Classic Expo in Salzburg, Austria. Returned to the United States in 2017. Sorted by Dugan Enterprises in 2022. Borrani wire wheels. Tool kit.     275 GTB/4 NART Spyder Conversion, S/N 10743 (1967). Metallic silver gray with red leather interior. Originally finished in Giallo Fly with nero interior. Exported to the United States in the 1970s. Converted by Richard Straman in 1979. The full roof, unfinished when converted into the spyder, will be shipped to the winning bidder. Extensive restoration in 1994. Mechanicals were sorted by Patrick Ottis. Shown at the 2017 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. Lot S168.1. Not sold at $2.9 million.

 

 

    330 GTC, S/N 10889 (1968). Red with black leather, red carpet. Estimate $450,000 to $650,000. No reserve. New to Auto Becker in Germany.  Eventually exported to the United States, where it joined the Rick Grant Collection. Electric windows, Borrani wire wheels. Lot K149. Sold for $412,500.

 

    330 GTS, S/N 11085 (1968). Rosso corsa with black leather interior. Estimate $1 million - $1.2 million. No reserve. Originally Rosso Cina (China Red) with beige leather interior. A late-production example delivered to Luigi Chinetti Motors. Blaupunkt radio, electric windows, Borrani wire wheels. Fascinating dash plaque from Germany’s Scuderia Hanseat driving school, engraved with the name Otto C. Winzen. Winzen contributed to the American space program during the 1950s and 1960s.     365 GTB/4, S/N 14453 (1971). Fly yellow with tan interior. Estimate $600,000 to $750,000. No reserve. Daytona seats with nero stripes, factory air conditioning, power windows. Delivered to Bill Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors and sold new to Francisco Mir’s Service and Diagnosis. It was later sold to Las Vegas, and Studio City, California, before it was purchased by Robert and Margie Petersen, of the Petersen Museum, in 2002. The subject of a ground-up restoration in 1995. Gold Award at the 1997 Concorso Italiano and a Platinum Award at the 1998 Concorso Italiano. Also a People’s Choice Award at the 2003 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. It joined the Rick Grant Collection in 2015. Lot K150. Sold for $715,000.

    I don’t normally leave in the no-sale cars. The high-bid amounts seem to be approprate values and several of those cars should have gone to new owners.

    Analyzing auction results can be difficult.  With the rising market these cars may have been presented too soon, as the market has not caught up to the seller’s expectations.

    Then again, there may not have been buyers in the room. The reported bids may not have been real. 

    Auctions are always interesting for both the buyer and seller. Do these results move the market? Scottsdale is around the corner; that may be a better indicator. Ed.
