RM Sotheby's inaugural auction was a Ferrari success.

    250 GT PF COUPE, S/N 1383 GT (1959). Grigio Argento with rosso leather and vinyl interior. Estimate €500,000 to €600,000. Finished in July 1959, the Ferrari was collected directly from the factory by the Swiss racing driver and hill climb champion, Willy-Peter Daetwyler. Daetwyler split his time between residences in Zurich, Monaco, and Los Angeles, initially placing it on Swiss tourist license plates. In April 1960, he was seen driving this 250 Coupé at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry during a racing drivers school event hosted by the Automobile Club de Suisse. Later, Daetwyler exported it to Los Angeles, and little is known until it was offered, but unsold, at a Monterey auction in August 1989. It appeared for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter in 1991. Resurfacing in 2013, it was owned by a German owner. In December 2014, it was certified by Ferrari Classiche, and issued the Red Book. Matching-numbers chassis and engine. Lot 128. Sold for €421,250.

 

 

    250 GTE 2+2 SERIES II, S/N 3947 GT (1962). Grigio Notte with Pelle Rossa interior. Estimate €350,000 to €450,000. Built November 1962, delivered new to Crepaldi Automobili in Milan, Italy on 10 December. In October 1988 it was registered in Norway. The same owner later re-registered this vehicle on the very appropriate “F 250” Norwegian license plate. In January 1993, the second Norwegian owner took possession, and the following year displayed it at an exhibition in Sjølyst, Oslo. In May 2008, then painted a shade of red it left Norway. It is believed that sometime between May 2008 and October 2012, it underwent restoration. Classiche Red Book. Matching-numbers chassis, differential, and engine. Lot 123. Sold for €410,000.

 

 

    250 GTE 2+2 SERIES III, S/N 4397 GT (1963). Black with beige Connolly leather. Estimate €200,000 to €240,000. Built in April 1963 and delivered new to Zurich. Originally finished in Azzurro with beige interior. Early history is not well documented, but it is believed the car remained in Switzerland for the majority of its life. In 1983, the original engine was discovered in Maryland, United States, suggesting it had previously received a replacement engine. Between 2001 to 2005 it was offered in fully restored condition by Carugati Automobiles of Geneva, Switzerland. In May 2008, the current owner acquired this car, and has remained in dry storage. 37,911 kilometers. RM website description says engine from S/N 3713 is in this car. Lot 138. Sold for €246,875.

 

 

    330 AMERICA, S/N 5113 GT (1963). Rosso Cordoba with fawn leather. Estimate €400,000 to €500,000. The 48th of 50 built. It left the factory in mid-November 1963. Originally finished in Blu Sera with marrone Connolly leather. It arrived at Luigi Chinetti Motors on 16 December 1963 and sold through Ferrari Seattle. In July 1973, it was owned by a gentleman in Redmond, Washington. Three years later it was offered in the Ferrari Market Letter but was not sold and was placed in storage until 1984. In May 1984, it was advertised for sale and purchased by Dr. Charles Kirkpatrick of Denver, Colorado. This owner restored the car in Rosso Cordoba and fawn leather. Until his passing in 2014, Mr. Kirkpatrick displayed at multiple concours and Ferrari Club of America events. The current owner acquired this car in August 2014. December 2014 Classiche certification. Matching-numbers chassis and engine. Lot 134. €420,000.

 

 

    330 GT 2+2 SERIES I, S/N 5539 GT (1964). Red with black interior. Estimate €180,000 to €220,000. Built in 1964, and left the factory on 27 February finished in Amaranto with nero leather interior. It was purchased new in Italy, and thereafter exported to the United States. The car remained there until 2014, when it was bought by the current owner and exported to Kuwait. 58,218 miles. Matching-numbers chassis, engine, and rear axle. Having remained in storage for eight years, this car will require recommissioning prior to road use. Lot 139. Sold for €195,500.

 

 

    365 GTB/4-A, S/N 16519 (1973). Rosso Chiaro with beige leather. Estimate €550,000 to €650,000. Completed in March 1973 and built for the European market. Delivered new to Switzerland to its first owner in Geneva. In 1975 it was acquired by its second owner in Portugal and a year later, it moved to Sweden under the ownership of several keepers until 1983, when the car was exported to the U.S.A. and registered in Virginia. In 1986, a collector in Connecticut bought the car and it was retrimmed in the beige leather upholstery seen today. Subsequently passed to Massachusetts and later an owner in Rhode Island. By 2004, it was acquired by its most recent long-term owner for the next 16 years. Classiche certification in March 2006. Matching numbers for the body, chassis and engine, while the gearbox is the correct type. Owner’s manual and assorted books, a well-documented history file, and leather tool roll. 24,322 kilometers. Lot 132. Sold for €550,000.

 

 

    512 BBi, VIN ZFFJA09B000048175 (1983). Rosso corsa with Pelle Nera. Estimate €175,000 to €225,000. Delivered new to Auto Becker in November 1983. Certified by Classiche in May 2015. Matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox. 5,208 kilometers. Lot 131. Sold for €184,000.

 

 

    TESTAROSSA, VIN ZFFAA17B000086901 (1990). Rosso corsa with nero interior. Estimate €100,000 to €125,000. Delivered new via Charles Pozzi of Paris in February 1991. Acquired by its current owner in July 1995, when it had covered 11,194 kilometers. A history file documents diligent up-keep, with servicing and maintenance carried out almost universally by one single workshop. The most recent service was in September 2019, less than 1,000 kilometers ago. Accompanied by emergency 12-volt light, leather owner’s pouch including original documents, Pioneer radio-cassette, Schedoni luggage set with dust covers, two original keys, and two toolkit bags. Lot 141. Sold for €149,500.

 

 

    599 GTO, VIN ZFF70RDB000176113 (2010). Two-tone Blu Scozia with Grigio Silverstone highlights on the roofline and C-pillars. Blu Scuro interior. Estimate €800,000 to €1 million. Supplied new to dealer, Rossocorsa S.r.l., on 29 September 2010. Additionally specified with several carbon fiber components, including door sill covers, headlamp surrounds, racing seats, and wheel caps. Alcantara carpets, dashboard, headlining, seats, and steering wheel. Further options include a Bose hi-fi system, iPod connectivity, rear parking sensors, and satellite navigation. 15,961 kilometers. Classiche Red Book, owner’s manual, and toolkit. Lot 113. Sold for €860,000.

 

 

    F12TDF, VIN ZFF81BHB000226351 (2017). Blu Scozia with grigio Alcantara interior. Estimate €1 million to €1.4 million. One of five examples of the F12tdf made in Blu Scozia. Body-colored door mirrors, blue brake calipers, and liberal application of exposed carbon fiber. The interior was specified with “Daytona” racing seats—sized large—with matching gray carpets, seatbelts, and Alcantara steering wheel. Ordered with adaptive headlamps, Bluetooth-enabled infotainment system, insulated windscreen, and parking cameras. Owned by the consignor since 11 May 2017 and has been serviced every year since 2018. The most recent service was on 9 June 2022 at 2,867 kilometers. Currently the odometer reads 2,945 kilometers. Lot 114. Sold for €1.21 million.

 

 

    DINO 206 GT, S/N 00356 (1969). Rosso Chiaro with nero interior. Estimate €150,000 to €200,000. Completed on 31 January 1969, imported by Maranello Concessionaires. By March, the Ferrari had been bought by its first owner, playboy and gentleman driver, Alain de Cadenet. It changed hands again later that year. By 1972 the car was based in Glasgow, and in 1979 was bought by the consignor’s father. Since then, it has remained in dry storage. The recipient of restoration work at the hands of its long-term owner, the car presents today as a near-complete yet unfinished project fitted with a non-matching Fiat variant of the Dino V-6. Showing 22,151 km. Lot 118. Sold for €303,125.

 

 

    DINO 308 GT4, S/N 12276 (1976). Avorio Safari with Pelle Rossa interior. Estimate €70,000 to €90,000. Delivered to Auto Becker in April 1976. 40,691 kilometers. Classiche in June 2009. Lot 143. Sold for €82,800.

 

 

    328 GTS, VIN ZFFWA20B000081360 (1989). Rosso corsa with nero leather. Estimate €90,000 to €140,000. Delivered to its first owner on 16 August 1989, via Auto Becker. Later sold to its second German owner on 4 July 1991, who preserved the Ferrari until 2012, when it was sold to the current owner. This 328 GTS has spent the past 10 years in climate-controlled storage. 3,322 kilometers. It will require mechanical inspection and servicing prior to being driven again. Lot 109. Sold for €184,000.

 

 

    F40, VIN ZFFGJ34B000089385 (1991). Rosso Corsa with Stoffa Vigogna interior. Estimate €2.3 million to €2.6 million. Completed assembly in May 1991, specified for the European market, equipped with wind-up windows. Immediately delivered to Roberto “Pupo” Moreno, a Brazilian racing driver who found marginal success during a three-decade career that included stints in Formula One, CART, and sports car racing. After 18 months of ownership, Pupo had the F40 stored at the factory and offered it for sale. The berlinetta was then acquired by an enthusiast in Frankfurt. Before long the car was stored for a further period at a local garage. In July 2007, it was driven by Matthias Weiland at the Ferrari Racing Days event held at the Hockenheimring and in March 2011, Mr. Weiland displayed the car at the Techno Classica in Essen. A few months later it was sold to France and was one of 500 Ferraris invited at Sport et Collection exhibition in June 2013. Sold to an Italian around 2015, it was more recently acquired by the consigning owner. In September 2020, it was serviced in Geneva, Switzerland. Both left and right fuel tanks were replaced, the fuel lines were refreshed, and other work was undertaken. 9,400 kilometers. History file includes copies of the warranty booklet and service invoices from 2012 to 2020. Lot 142. Sold for €2.3 million.

 

 

    488 PISTA SPIDER, VIN ZFF91HMB000261369 (2021). Blu Scozia with Blu Sterling leather and Blu Navy Alcantara. Estimate €400,000 to €600,000. Options include carbon fiber engine cover, front vents, sills, and front and rear splitters, and carbon ceramic disc brakes. The interior includes Alcantara carpet and Daytona racing seats. A data plate lists all the selected options. 2,689 kilometers. A one-owner-from-new example. Lot 112. Sold for €522,500.
