Mecum Kissimmee auction starts the 2025 auction season. The results here don't really move the needle. Scottsdale will be the next large auction which may give us a better view of the market. While the results here didn't drive the collector cars, the driver/useful cars did pretty well.

The Mecum Kissimmee auction starts the 2025 auction season. It will be interesting to see how the results here will compare to Scottsdale auctions later in the month.

The market has been lethargic and while A-list cars have done well, the rest of the market has not caught fire.

Will 2025 be the year of great sales? We will see.

The COVID era has dimmed, prices and sales over the last several years have been steady. A slight depression in prices has not turned into a mass sell-off situation.

This pause is good for our hobby, in as much as it prepares us for the next appreciation sine wave.

My crystal ball remains cloudy, but I feel now is the time to purchase.

No one knows where the bottom of the market is, as well as where prices will top out, but I feel we are much closer to the bottom than on the edge of another dip in the market.

     As always Caveat Emptor!

Wow, where to start. I know Mecum kinda starts the auction season for 2025 and it will be the Scottsdale auctions that really set the tone for the rest of the year.

But Mecum has been attracting more high-end Ferraris the last few years. Typically Mecum has a Ferrari or two that get taken around the country to be showcased as the Star Lot.

These cars are usually used as a draw to bring buyers into the tent. Clearly, a Daytona has no business being sold in Indianapolis, or Tulsa. That is not the right venue to receive top dollar for such a car.

From a marketing standpoint it is smart and savvy to use a Ferrari to draw people in. Like the lottery, the chance to see and touch  a Ferrari like a Daytona, and to dream of possibly owning such a car, draws people like moths to a flame.

The Kissimmee auction showcased many high quality cars this year. No one can deny having a 250 Lusso, 400 Superamerica, a 275 GTB/4, two Daytona Spyders, a couple of Dinos and an F40 as a pretty good docket.

     None of these cars sold.

The no sales are somewhat suprising if the given high bid numbers are accurate.

Both Daytona Spyders were in the $2.5 million range. Are Spyders worth that much more?

There were sales in 2023 in the high $2 million range, and sales in early 2024 over the $3 million mark.

Since August there have been six spyders offered with only one public sale at $2.2 million and one sold after the auction for an undisclosed amount; the estimate range was $2.4 to $2.7 million suggesting the actual amount was under the $2.4 million amount.

If this is representative of the other cars offered here at Mecum, the sellers are reaching for numbers that are just not there - yet.

The year is still early, so the Scottsdale results will be soon scrutinized to see if the market is on a rebound or will continue to remain steady.
